The new exposition of the Otrar state archaeological preservation museum is based on the thematic-expositional plan "ANCIENT AND MEDIEVAL OTRAR". The museum staff's works are remarkable in updating the exposition.
The Hall of Archaeology is located on the second floor and the Hall of Ethnography is on the third floor and consisted of the following sections:
1. Otrar oasis in the Stone Age;
2. Otrar oasis in the Bronze and Early Iron Ages;
3. Otrar oasis during Kangju State;
4. Otrar oasis in the mid of 6th and beginning of the 7th cc during Celestial Turks;
5. Occupation of Tarband-Otrar ownership by the Muslim army;
6. Otrar is a homeland of the great scientist Abu Nasr al-Farabi;
7. Otrar is in the 9th – 13th cc;
8. Otrar is in the 13th – 15th cc;
9. Otrar is as a part of Kazakh Kingdom;
10. Otrar is in the 19th – 20th cc;
The items of the exhibition are planned according to their theme and content. In the exhibition hall it is demonstrated household items made of clay such as pots, bowls, glasses, mugs, medium cups, lamps, inkpot and used façade elements such as glazed bricks, terracotta and kubba – top of the domes in decorating important buildings, as well as mortar, stand, lamp, amulets made of bronze, silver and copper coins, iron arrowheads, shovel, swords and glass, bone products dated from the Neolithic and Bronze Age to the 18th century which found during the archaeological excavations in Otrar and its surrounding towns
The third floor of the preservation museum is a separate ethnographic exposition and it is exhibited the wooden, woolen, leather and metal items reflecting the life, livelihoods, crafts and culture of the Kazakh people from the 18th – 20th cc. As well as, there are a conference room equipped with modern technologies and a golden hall on the second floor. Additionally there are information kiosk, Smart TV which presents the documentary films, state symbols and a map of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The LED screen at the entrance to the museum gives a great deal of information about the history of the museum.
Guests can leave their signatures to thank the museum staff for their impressions of the museum for a special wishing book. The wishing book includes the signature of the first President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev, ethnographer Uzbekali Zhanibekov, writer and public figure Chingiz Aitmatov, philologist Akzhan Mashanov, Absattar Derbisaliev, poet Mukhtar Shakhanov and a number of scientists and foreign famous people.
The past lives and cultural heritage of our people are becoming more reverent. Nowadays the special ethno complex which located in the yard of Otrar state archaeological preservation museum inevitably attracts the attention of visitors. Let’s talk more in detail, Zhertole is a house belonging to Kazakhs made of turf and unburnt brick, kos is a first type of the house which covered with felt carpet and convenient for immigration, mor is an oven for preparing the frames of the yurt, tez for bending the frames of the yurt, a permanent house korzhyn ui as well as the boat are specially attract the interests of the visitors. This boat was made by the woodworker and a citizen of Shengeldi village of Otrar region of SKO Syzdykuly Nadaiymbek, by the order of the scientist, ethnographer, state and public figure U.Zhanibekov.
Museums play an important role in preserving the historical and cultural heritage of the Kazakh people and bringing them to future generations. The Otrar museum will continue to work in these directions in the future.
